ABOUT

Since 1962, Herb has been painting with a number of Ottawa artists. In 1978 he joined the Ottawa School of Art, where he studied under Bruce Heggtveit, Robert Hyndman and others. In 1996 he attended a workshop with Philip Craig.

Herb is mainly as self-taught artist who enjoys plein-air painting and is inspired by the colours and space of the Canadian landscape. Nature is the ultimate teacher, it teaches us to see colour, light, shadows and shapes, and to feel the moment, It is a challenge to put all this on canvas and to connect with the viewer.

Herb's works are represented in private collections in Canada, Europe, UK and the USA. Huib's paintings have received numerous awards, including: Juried OAA shows in Ottawa (Honorable mention in 1996; Second prize in 1999, Honorable mentions in 2000 and 2004, second prize 2015, third prize 2017). ArtEast, Art and Photo Show (Second prize in 2009 and Honorable mention in 2010). ArtEast, Trinity Gallery (Shenkman) MOSAIC, Juror's Choice, 2017. Mystery of the Park, third prize, 2014.
